Setting Up Your LiveU Solo PRO

This is a setup guide for the LiveU Solo PRO. If you've purchased your LiveU Solo PRO as part of an IRL Backpack, please use the full IRL Backpack setup guide instead

Step 1 - Registration

Visit the LiveU Solo Portal (https://solo.liveu.tv)

The Login / New User screen is displayed.

Register as a new user or login, if you already have a LiveU account. Remember, if you're upgrading from an original LiveU Solo, you're eligible for a $250 account credit.
Add the LiveU Solo PRO unit to your account using the supplied serial number on the “Setup” card included with your LiveU order. The number begins with “3S”
If this is a subsequent Solo unit, register the unit to your existing account using the 'Add Solo' button.
If you are NOT using Solo Connect, click 'Add LRT' - make sure to use the reseller code solo-uirl to save 5%. An active LRT service enables simultaneous bonding of more than one network. If you plan to activate a Solo Connect Plan, do not click “Add LRT” as it is included in your monthly Solo Connect pricing and a separate LRT plan is not needed. Remember to select your LRT zone after the service activation is complete.

Step 2 - Add Solo Connect data package (Optional)

Connect the Solo PRO unit to WiFi. Using the screen of your LiveU, press Select using the scroll wheel, then select Interfaces and choose the WiFi interface at the top.

Once connected to WiFI, your LiveU will say “Ready” at the bottom of the screen.

Plug your Solo Connect Starter Kit into your LiveU.

If you've chosen a 2 Modem Kit, you can slide the 2 modems into the LiveU sling using the “L” cables that shipped with your unit

Add a belt-pack or 4 Modem Holder

If you've chosen a 4 Modem Kit, you can slide all 4 modems into the LiveU sling using the “Y-cables” supplied with your Modem Kit, and the plastic 4 modem adapter holder included with your UnlimitedIRL order. If you don't have this adapter, please contact UnlimitedIRL Support.

You can also choose to use the LiveU Belt pack, which is designed to hold the 4 Modem Kit.

Step 3 - Activating Solo Connect

Access the LiveU Solo Portal (https://solo.liveu.tv)
Click 'Activate Solo Connect.'
Enter your Solo Connect serial number starting with SC - it appears on the setup card that your Starter Kit came with or on each modem in the kit. Choose a monthly or annual service period. The number is in the format: SC####-#####. Only one serial number is needed to activate your modem kit.
You'll be prompted for a reseller code. Enter code solo-uirl and click apply to set up your exclusive UnlimitedIRL discounted rate.
Next, you will be asked “Which region will you use your Solo Connect in?” You should choose the region that makes sense for you. You can view pricing and supported countries and networks for each “region” here. Don't worry - you can switch regions at anytime.

Once you've submitted the activation for your Solo Connect kit, you must wait 1-2 hours for LiveU's operations team to activate your SIM cards and apply your LRT license. Remember to select your LRT zone after the service activation is complete. You'll know your service is activated and working when you see the cellular connections lit up green on your LiveU's on-device display under “Interfaces”.

If you've chosen to activate your Solo Connect Plan, do not click “Add LRT” as it is included in your monthly Solo Connect pricing and a separate LRT plan is not needed. The Add LRT button will disappear when your Solo Connect modems have finished activating. The standalone “LRT only” plan is intended for those using their own modems.

Upgrading from 2 to 4 Modems

If you chose a 2 Modem Kit initially and are adding another 2 Modem Kit (or if you received your IRL Backpack before June 2024), you can merge 2x 2 Modem kits into a 4 Modem Kit to access the discounted pricing. Step 4 - Set Destinations

There are three main ways to stream from your LiveU Solo to your favorite platforms:

A) Direct to Platform with RTMP: Stream directly from the Solo Portal (H264) to platforms like Twitch, YouTube, or Facebook. You will not be able to add overlays or graphics on the screen, and if the LiveU loses connection temporarily, your stream may go “offline” on your platform.

B) Stream Over SRT with HEVC to a Relay: Stream to an SRT relay (like IRLHosting's $9.99 SRT endpoint option) to pull from OBS or VMix, then forward to your preferred platform. You can add graphic overlays and keep your stream from ending if you lose service temporarily, but it requires a computer to run OBS Studio somewhere with a good internet connection.

C) Stream Over SRT with HEVC to IRLToolkit: UnlimitedIRL highly recommends IRLToolkit for professional streamers and those looking for an effortless, cloud-based mobile streaming solution. IRLToolkit allows you to manage and preview your stream, add additional video inputs to switch between, add overlays, handle transcoding, and keep your stream live during service interruptions. Advantages of H265 (HEVC): H265 offers vastly improved picture quality at low bitrates compared to H264. However, major social platforms (e.g., Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, Kick) do not support SRT HEVC / H265 ingest natively. To stream to these platforms, you must transcode your feed to RTMP (H264).

A. Stream Direct to Platform

Click 'Add Destination.' on the LiveU Solo Portal (https://solo.liveu.tv)
On the Destinations menu, most popular streaming platforms are available to choose from with one-click setup - including Twitch, YouTube, Facebook and more.
To save a destination to your LiveU, make sure your LiveU unit is powered on, and in a “Ready” idle state. The unit should show “Ready” at the bottom of the screen.

B. Stream to OBS

Stream to OBS, then to your preferred platform with SRT (requires a computer running OBS Studio at all times)

In order to use SRT H265, you'll need to transcode the feed into a compatible format (e.g., RTMP H264) before streaming to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, or Kick. You can do this using an SRT relay, like IRLHosting's $9.99 SRT endpoint service. You'll configure your LiveU to stream to the SRT endpoint, and then you'll add your LiveU Solo PRO feed as a media source inside of OBS. Need any help setting this up? Click 'Add Destination.' on the LiveU Solo Portal (https://solo.liveu.tv)
Select 'SRT-OUT-Caller-Solo' and enter the details from your SRT relay provider, including latency preferences.

In OBS Studio, add the SRT feed from your LiveU as a media source.
Use OBS to configure the final stream to your preferred platform (e.g., Twitch or YouTube)

C. Stream to IRLToolkit

Extra Setup Notes

Beltpack Setup: Step-by-Step

Step 1 - Mount the Solo PRO

Insert the unit so the bottom rests in the elastic strap inside the pack.
Use the locking strap to secure the top. Make sure the USB ports on the sides remain accessible above the strap. The LiveU logo should face up, with the battery compartment resting against the pack.
If using HDMI, attach the HDMI tension clip to the locking strap. Plug the HDMI cable into the Solo unit and route it to the clip.

Step 2 - Route the modem cables through the cable holes

Locate the cable holes on either side of the beltpack.
Thread the included Y-cables (or regular cables if using fewer modems) through the holes and plug them into the Solo PRO.

Step 3 - Install the modems into the side pockets

Connect each modem to the cables, then place them in the side mesh pockets.
Each pocket has two rows of elastic straps (top and bottom). Place each modem in its own loop to hold it securely. When inserted properly, the two modems should have comfortable distance between them and held by elastic straps.
Zip up the pocket as needed to keep modems secure while allowing cable routing.

Step 4 - Set up access to HDMI/SDI ports

The pack has side zippers that give access to HDMI or SDI ports without removing the unit.
Open the zipper partially when you need to plug or unplug cables.

Step 5 - Use the front pocket (optional)

The top flap features a front pocket for accessories, spare batteries, or small gear.

Step 6 - Wear the beltpack

Use the belt straps to wear the pack on your waist or across your shoulder (bandolier style).
Adjust the strap to fit different waist sizes or wearing configurations.
