Setup IRLToolkit for your IRL Backpack or LiveU Solo

IRLToolkit is an advanced software-in-your-browser service designed to optimize IRL broadcasts when using the IRL Backpack or LiveU Solo PRO. It enables streamers to manage their streams effortlessly and add professional-grade features to elevate their content.

While IRLToolkit is not mandatory for streaming with the IRL Backpack or LiveU Solo PRO, we highly recommend it to enhance the quality, reliability, and professionalism of your broadcasts.

Note: These instructions assume that you have already created a Solo Portal (https://solo.live.tv) account and registered your unit. If you have not, then refer to the Setup Guide for IRL Backpack v7 or LiveU Setup Guide first.

Note: For best results when traveling, make sure to update your current LRT zone to one which is close to where you are.

Purchase a Plan

First, sign up at https://irltoolkit.com. For 99% of users, the Standard Plan is sufficient. If you choose to go with the advanced server, 5 ingests are included.

You may choose to add the “Clips Player” during the sign up process - this allows you to automatically play your channel's top clips if your stream ever goes down.
If you plan to switch between your home “streaming setup' and your IRL Backpack seamlessly (without ending the stream), we recommend adding an additional ingest. We'll give you more information on how to set up this workflow later on.

After you've paid, allow a few hours for IRLToolkit to email you your server connection details. With this information, you’ll be able to login to the IRLToolkit dashboard at https://irl.run to configure and manage your stream remotely on a phone or computer.

Configure your LiveU Solo to Stream to IRLToolkit with SRT

Note: In order to use SRT, LRT must be enabled on your LiveU. If you've activated Solo Connect, it may take a few hours before LRT is available on your unit. See discussion here.

Begin by powering on your LiveU encoder.
Connect your LiveU to a network via USB, Ethernet, or WiFi. Make sure the LiveU display says 'Ready' at the bottom before continuing. ‘Ready’ indicates the unit is able to “phone-home”.
Log into the Solo Portal (https://solo.live.tv) and the IRLToolkit Dashboard (https://irl.run), using the login information emailed to you after signing up.
Ensure that LRT service is enabled and the zone is one of those listed here.
On your main LiveU Solo Portal dashboard press 'Select New Destination'.

Scroll down until you see the 'IRLToolKit SRT' destination type and select it.

You'll be presented with a box to input your IRLToolkit streamkey. To find this use the IRLToolkit dashboard, go to 'Settings -> Ingests', and press the 'SRT (LiveU)' button on your ingest of choice. Simply paste your key into the destination in your LiveU Solo Portal dashboard.
There are addtional settings that can be adjusted, but for best results it is best to leave them as the provided defaults.

Configure your Streaming Platform

With the Standard plan, you can stream simultaneously to 2 online services at once.

To configure your streaming destination, login to https://irl.run , and click Settings > Destinations at the top. If your chosen platform is Twitch, you can click the red Twitch button sign in with Twitch. For any other streaming service, you'll need to configure the platform as a “Custom RTMP” destination. Customizing your IRL stream

To add alerts, overlays, and more, you can access OBS Studio on the remote server directly in your browser by going to OBS -> Remote via the IRLToolkit toolbar navigation (https://irl.run). This “Remote” is where you can configure any desired donation, sub, and follow alerts to appear on the stream. Files can be uploaded to the Remote's file browser by clicking the ≡ icon, then click the upload option in the bottom right corner.

Live Switching - IRL Backpack / Desktop Setup

A common use case for IRLToolkit is as a middleman to switch between streaming setups. You can configure your desktop OBS to stream thru IRLToolkit to allow seamless switching between an IRL Stream and a Desktop stream without needing to restart your stream. We've written a separate support guide for this here, called “Live Switching - IRL Backpack / Desktop Setup”

Start Streaming

To queue up your stream, first start streaming from your IRL Backpack / LiveU Solo by pressing the power button on the LiveU's display once, while your camera is connected. You should see the ingested bitrate coming into IRLToolkit from your LiveU in the bottom right corner of the https://irl.run webpage. You should also see a preview of your stream in the bottom left corner.

Is your bitrate on your LiveU stuck at 396kbps? Make sure LRT is enabled.

To start your broadcast from IRLToolkit to your streaming destination (the internet), click the green 'Start' button on the left side of the irl.run dashboard (https://irl.run). Once you see the status at the bottom left turn green and say 'Online', your broadcast is live on your channel. The 'Bitrate' for each ingest represents your bitrate from your LiveU to the IRLToolkit server. This number may vary depending on signal strength and is reprocessed by IRLToolkit to a static fixed bitrate before being sent to your selected streaming destination.

Once you're ready to end your stream, open the irl.run control panel again and click the red 'Stop'. Then, you can power down your IRL Backpack or LiveU Solo.
