Modem Lock Installation Guide

Introduction

As part as our ongoing process to continuously improve the IRL Backpack, the team designed modem locks and clips to keep the USB connections secure at all times.

In the past, some streamers noticed the USB cables would disconnect from the modems while using their backpacks without them realizing. The result of this would be less unique internet connections being bonded together leading to coverage and stream quality being reduced.

The modem locks for LiveU Solo PRO Connect modems ensure that physical cable disconnects will not happen, even when using an IRL Backpack for streams with more intense motion. Male velcro is featured on the underside of the holders for easy mounting inside the IRL Backpack v7 and other setups with female velcro.

This guide explains how to install the modem locks on existing PRO Connect modems.

Installation

Depending on the Modem Lock kit that's ordered, you'll receive 2 or 4 sets of modem holders + cable locking clips.

The first part of this guide assumes you are upgrading an existing IRL Backpack v7 which may have velcro strips applied directly on the PRO Connect modems. It's also worth noting that some earlier bags may not have any velcro on the modems.

If you're installing Modem Locks on brand new PRO Connect Modems, you can skip the first steps covering velcro strip removal.

The first step is to carefully remove the male velcro strips that are stuck to the underside of the modems. Squeeze the two plastic halves of the modems together with one hand while using the other to peel off the velcro. This is to prevent damage to the modems (avoiding pulling the casing apart) as the velcro glue is quite strong.

Once removed, the velcro should have left no residue behind. If some remains, use the stickiness of the removed velcro strip to clean the area.

Slide the LiveU Solo PRO Connect modem into the modem holder so the LiveU logo is on the same side as the UnlimitedIRL logo.

Make sure to push the modem all the way to the end of the holder or else the lock will not work. There may be more resistance towards the end so make it a firmer push if needed.

Repeat this process for your remaining Solo PRO Connect modems.

The next step is connecting the Y-splitter USB cables and attaching the locking clips to the modems.

Thread one of female USB cable connectors through the locking clip as shown.

Connect the USB cable to the Solo PRO Connect Modem.

Finally, push the lip of the locking clip over inner edge of the modem holder. The clip should then “click” into place and now everything is firmly secure. You may need to first spin the clip around the cable so that it's positioned with the correct orientation. See the image above for reference.

Repeat this process for your remaining Solo PRO Connect modems.

You've now successfully installed Modem Locks on your LiveU Solo PRO Connect modems!

The final step is to mount your modems in the lower compartment of your IRL Backpack v7 (or other streaming setup) using the built-in velcro strips, and plugging in the Y-Splitter USB cables to the USB 3.0 extenders so that the modems are connected to your LiveU Solo PRO. You should mount 2 modems on the floor of the lower bag compartment, and another 2 on the rear wall if you have the full 4 modem PRO Connect kit.

Once this is done, you're ready to get out there and stream again!
