CamSaver Installation Guide

Introduction

Designed in collaboration with IRLtools, this upgrade for the Sony X3000 and AS300 includes full-body protection, a Cold Shoe mount for attaching accessories, and a built-in cable clamp for preventing cable disconnects. As this popular camera was officially discontinued by Sony, it’s important that your device is always protected from accidental damage while streaming.

Once you've received the ultimate upgrade for your Sony X3000/AS300, it's time to install it on the camera. By following this step-by-step guide, you should be able to have it set up in no time at all!

Installation

Inside the CamSaver pouch you should find the following components:

• 1 x Base Plate
• 1 x Front Lens
• 1 x Rear Body
• 1 x Large Screw (need to add size)
• 4 x Small Screws found in the base plate (need to add size)
• 4 x Small Screws found in rear body (need to add size)
• 3 x Various Hex Keys (need to add sizes)

The first step is remove the rear IO door cover from your Sony Action Cam. Please be aware that this is a permanent modification.

Using a pair of scissors, cut the black plastic connectors between the rear of the camera and the IO door cover. Make the cut as close to the camera body as possible.

This is how it will look once the IO door cover has been removed.

Slide the Sony camera into the Rear Body of the CamSaver.

Using a Hex Key, unscrew the rear screws of the Base Plate as shown in the photo above.

Position the Base Plate beneath the Rear Body and install the screws (removed in the previous step) through both parts of the CamSaver. The screw threads should easily line up.

Install the largest screw through the bottom of the Base Plate using the largest Hex Key.

Using a Hex Key, unscrew the front screws of the Base Plate as shown in the photo above.

Position the Front Lens in front of the Base Plate and install the screws (removed in the previous step) through both parts of the CamSaver. The screw threads should easily line up.

At the rear of the CamSaver, use the smallest Hex Key to loosen the cable clamp screws enough to fit the HDMI and USB connectors into their respective ports on the camera.

Once the cables are connected, tighten the cable clamp screws on each side gradually until the cables are well secured in place. Keep the cable connectors coming out of the camera straight and be careful not to tighten one side too much, making sure that the connectors or port are not bent. How much each side screw is tightened can vary based on the cables being used.

DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE SCREWS, YOU CAN DAMAGE THE CABLES. It’s highly suggested to keep the Hex Keys inside your IRL backpack in case you need to change cables or adjust something while you’re on the go.

Your CamSaver has been successfully installed and you can now mount the camera on a tripod or other mount using the standard ¼ thread on the bottom. It's also now possible to attach various accessories to the camera including external microphones and lights using the cold shoe mount located on top.

Replacing Cables

It's important to note that while the camera ports and cable connectors are now protected, the cables will still wear and breakdown over time so will need to be replaced periodically. It's always good practice to have spares on hand! When replacing the cables, you'll just need to loosen the cable clamp screws, remove the old cables, connect the new cables, and then tighten the cable clamp screws again.
